2018 Match Results
21/10/2018 the final Sun. Canal League match at Barston Ln.
Several of our guys fished the final Sunday Canal League match at the Dolphin AC stretch of the GU at Barston Lane. We used the pegs in the 70’s & 80’s under the trees nearest to the access point.
The first three at the end of the 10 match series are in the money and we are allowed to drop the worst two results. It’s 20 points for a win, 19 for second etc. so after 9 matches, omitting two we have DD on 134, DH on 130 and FB on 128 points. DO is not far behind on 125.
A couple of the guys had a pleasure session last week and struggled saying the canal was too clear, going to be tough. On the day the canal was very clear but we had a calm October day.
Report;- DO won on the end peg out of the trees and in the sun all day with 1-4-0, catching bits early on. Joint second were DJ and RH with 0-13-0. DD the league leader didn’t weigh.
Result;- DD was uncatchable and won the series after 4 wins out of 10 matches with 150 points. DH was second on 147 winning 1 match in the series but consistent. FB and DO were joint third on 145 points. Both had won two of the matches but FB had missed a couple.
We start again in April 2019, if you fancy some Sunday Canal match fishing give the Secretary a call.
30th September – Canal League match at BAA Bodymore Heath
Several of our guys fished a Sunday Canal League match at BAA Bodymore Heath on the Fazeley Canal.
We had four in the first stretch and three below the lock in the second stretch. Strangely the three leading the league were all drawn together in the end stretch.
FB had a good first 2 hours on Pinkies catching Roach from way over but couldn’t get a bite down the track, then it totally died weighing 0-14-0.
BB in the middle of the 3 had two bites in the first four hours then hit a big hybrid from down the track in the last hour weighing 1-13-0.
DH managed to keep the bits coming all day but also weighed 0-14-0.
This leaves BB on 134, DH on 130 and FB on 128 points but DO is only two points out of the money on 126 with one match to go.
16th September – Canal League match at BAA Blackpole
Four of our guys fished a Sunday Canal League match at Blackpole, we drew for choice of peg. DD and DO chose to fish in the short stretch between the lock and bridge 20, the others went right towards bridge 21. EJ dropped in opposite a 30 yard stretch of reeds, DH chose a peg opposite a gap in the reeds, FB was nearer to bridge 21 opposite a gap in the reeds that looked very fishy.
The first two hours were quiet, in the last 3 hours we had 20 boats, 50 cyclists and numerous dog walkers. There were some surprises at the weigh in.
FB weighed first, he caught decent Rudd for two hours on pinkies and had a skimmer and a decent Perch in the third hour then no bites for the last hour and a half although fish were moving all day, weighing 4-7-0. DH had a couple of skimmers for 3-9-0. EJ fishing a featureless peg opposite the reeds had mainly Roach with two approaching a pound weighing 4-9-0. DO struggled with two bites all day for 3oz.
DD in the middle of the lock fishing opposite a huge overhang had quality Bream for 13-14-0. Apparently feeding grounbait and red maggots, he had all his fish on the maggot.
26th August – Canal League at BAA Bodymore Heath.
Six of our guys fished a Canal League match on the Fazeley at Bodymore Heath. We had just tackled up when the deluge started and it rained throughout the match.
We put five pegs in opposite the boats and two in the next lock,
bites were hard to come by.
FB won the match with a 3.5lb Bream and three skimmers for 5-9-0, all of his fish came from “down the track” the deepest part of the canal. He fed two pots of black ground bait and a dozen Pinkies every half an hour. The Bream took a single Pinky on a 22 hook and a 1.8lb hook link. All of his fish were on Pinkies, couldn’t get a bite on anything else.
DH was second from the far lock with 2.2lb Bream on worm he had first put in. DO was third with 1.5lb all small fish from near the access.
Weighing in was like a route march, we were all soaked by the time we got back to the cars.
24TH June – Canal Match at BAA Tibberton Bridge 25-26.
Four Girling members fished a match at BAA Tibberton. We parked in the Bridge Inn car park and walked down the lane to the canal avoiding the steps, turning right past some moorings onto the match length. The Canal appeared narrow with reeds on the far bank but a wide tow path, it was a scorching hot day, we had to do a bit of gardening, we fished 9am to 2pm to avoid the boats.
We were all surprised at the amount of bites, this stretch is teeming with fish. Most caught Perch and skimmers down the middle and Rudd over in the reeds. Further round the bend is a famous haunt for Carp and they could be seen basking in the Sun.
Weights were close with Frank winning with 5-14-0 all on single or double reds feeding ground bait early on and switching to fleuro pinkies pulling out of several Perch, Darren D was second with 4-14-0, last place had over 3lb, the Bream didn’t show and going for the bits paid off.
On a ridiculously hot day we trudged back to the car park for a beer in the sun.
We will definitely consider Tibberton for the 2019 2nd Aggregate but that will be an early April match.
19th May match at Lower Park on Abbey Pool
Seven of our guys fished a match at LP on Abbey, Girling AS match fished this pool a couple of weeks ago and pegs 24 and 26 produced, the winner feeding 4mm pellets with expanders on the hook. Again the island pegs were omitted and we fished the outer perimeter of the pool. The result was similar and the first three were GirlingAS guys.
DO on peg 20 won it with the help of a huge margin fish probably 8-9lb weighing 29lb. FB was second on the peg everyone wanted peg 26. He struggled for the first 3 hours fishing open water and chucking to the island but the margin eventually came alive feeding 4mm's over groundbait and had a hectic last two hours weighing 24-10-0. DH was third catching from the off at 8mm. The margin didn't produce and he slipped to third. A scorching hot day and at the end it was off to the pub.

MOLANDS The carp and F1s started to spawn at the start of the week which has led to some mixed fishing throughout the remainder of the week. Nets to over 130lb were caught but it was patchy. There have been plenty of double figure carp and fish to over 18lb have featured this week with pole and pellet or pellet waggler accounting for the better samples in matches and pleasure anglers have caught off the top with floating baits. F1s are responding better to meat or pellet fished from the margins.
GEARYS The F1s were in spawning mode during the start of the week and this led to sport dropping off. Nets to over 140lb have been caught this week and there have been fish to over 20lb weighed in matches and the biggest reported by a pleasure angler was 22lb. Bomb with pellet or a Hybrid feeder with wafter have been the best tactics.
LITTLE GEARYS Pole fished paste has been the best approach on Little Gearys with nets to 90lb coming to this. Shallow pole with caster or pellet is also accounting for good nets of F1s with the odd bigger carp coming to this too. The far bank from 7 - 15 has been the most consistent area.
GRATUITIES Fished better this week with plenty of carp in the 2 - 5lb range coming to pole fished paste or corn. The bigger samples and fish to double figures have fallen to floating baits with dog biscuit or bread working well.
ANNIVERSARIES Fishing well for F1s and small carp with pole fished pellet or corn working best. The fish are well spread around the pool but the best pegs have been 1 - 6 and 21 - 23.
WILLOW The bigger carp are coming to corn, meat or paste fished down the margins and fish to 15lb have come to this. Waggler or pellet feeder to the island is also producing good nets with pegs 1 - 5 all in good form.
SIBLINGS A Pole fished maggot or pellet is accounting for nets of carp, F1s, ide and skimmers. Meat and paste are starting to show some better results fishing close in or down the tracks.
SIBLINGS B The better of the two Siblings pools at the moment with big nets of F1s and ide coming to maggot, pellet or meat fished shallow. Pegs 7 - 11 around the point have been the best pegs.

Match 5th May
Seven of our guys fished a match at Packington on Gratuities. Twelve fished on a bright, hot day, the Carp were cruising around.
The match was won on corner peg 9 with 30lb most caught on the bomb feeding and catching on 6mm pellets. That's usually a margin peg but the margin didn't produce. Second was DD with 14-11-0 from the middle of the near bank. Third was FB in peg 8 another corner peg but again the margin didn't produce and most were caught from the corner of the island with a pellet waggler float and double maggots on an 18 hook.

Dave Lightowler-72-8-0-Peg 7 Sibling B. F1’s Pole and Paste.
MOLANDS A very good week with pleasure anglers reporting catches in excess of 200lb and plenty of 100lb+ weights in matches. The warm weather has seen the fish move onto the upper layers with waggler and pellet fished tight up to the island, shallow pole with pellet or caster and down the margins with meat or caster all producing good catches. The wind has pushed the fish down to the early pegs with 1 – 15 going well and the later pegs from 43 all way round to 60 fishing well.
GEARYS Lots of carp being caught by carp anglers fishing boilies or off the top with bread or dog biscuits. Match weights to around 80lb have been best but decent back up nets are being caught all around the pool. Bomb with 8mm pellet or method feeder and wagglers have been the best tactics. Best pegs have been 10 – 13, 18 – 23, 27 – 31 and 36.
LITTLE GEARYS In good form this week with match weights to 125lb and pleasure anglers exceeding that. The F1s are being caught shallow or down the inside margins with hard pellet. Corn and caster are the top baits at the moment. It is very consistent at the moment with most pegs capable of big weights.
GRATUTIES Carp are coming to the pellet waggler or a small method fished across to the middle island. Lots of fish are on the top and surface fishing has also been good. The silvers have also been going well with lots of skimmers, crucians and the odd tench and barbel being caught on caster, maggot or expander pellet fished down the middle.
ANNIVERSARIES The open water in the middle of the pool has been the best area with pegs 6, 16, 17 and 19 – 23 producing the better catches. The F1s are the main target with stockie carp and ide also showing. Pole fished pellet shallow has worked best with maggot and corn also scoring well.
WILLOW Shallow is the way on Willow at the moment with pellet waggler, plopper or long pole and pellet all working really well for F1s and carp to 5lb.
SIBLINGS A Picked up as the week went on with carp, F1s, ide, skimmers and tench providing decent sport by the weekend. The bigger carp are coming to corn or meat fished tight up to the grass on the island. Fishing down the middle with pellet shallow is good for mixed catches.
SIBLINGS B The paste is starting to progress on Siblings B with nets to nearly 100lb coming to this, fishing down the middle. Shallow pellet, caster or maggot is also accounting for some cracking catches of F1s and ide. This pool is very consistent with most pegs fishing well at the moment.
22nd April
Six of our Girling AS guys fished the first of the Sunday Canal league series. This year there are ten matches the majority on BAA venues but this opening match was back on the Dolphin AC stretch at Barston Lane Solihull. We had numerous pegs to choose from and the pegs were well spread. It was an 8am draw on the bank and 8 turned out. Henry on peg 70 won it with 8-13-0 of mainly skimmers from a peg that was alive with fish at the start. Dave was second with 6-7-0 and Ginga was third with 5-6-0 from the end peg near the motorway bridge.
21st April
The previous day seven of our guys fished a match at "Lower Park Fishery" on Pebble Pool. This is one of the main match lakes, it was a sunny day with a few spots of rain at the end. Dean won with 31lb mainly on the pellet waggler from a peg in the middle of the bank. Frank was second with 29lb of Carp from peg 12 catching under a bush to the left on meat on top 2+1, losing at least 10 Carp, they were queuing up for it in the last hour. Most caught big Ide up to 12oz, a good April match.
21st April - Packington Results week ending 15/4/2109
Dave Longford was fourth with 46-9-0 on the Vets match held on Gearies, Little Gearies and Grats, winner on Little Gearies peg 3 had 71-4-0 F1's pole and Maggot).
The Solihull Angling Centre match on Molands was won off peg 25 (Deans Peg) with 87-14-0 (Carp and F1's on pole and pellet).
The Vets match on Molands & Willow was won on Willow peg 5 with 35-4-0 (pole and Corn).
The Saturday open on Molands was won off peg 60 with 112-12-0.
The Sunday open on Molands was won with 78-7-0 off peg 23 (Carp and F1's on pole and Pellet).
GirlingAS are on "Siblings A" on the 25/5/2019, the report for 15/4/2019 went;- "SIBLINGS A" - Pleasure anglers have enjoyed really good sport with lots of carp, F1s, ide and skimmers coming out. Pole fished pellet, maggot, corn or worm are all working well fished down the middle or close in down the margins".
