Committee Objectives

Society Growth

Since 2017 the level of Membership has steadily grown. In 2018 the  Society registered ownership and access with Land Registry and as a  result  9 new pegs were produced in the lock stream, the committee will  continue to grow the Society.

Finance

The objective is to continue to effectively manage Society Finances with  full transparency.

Fishery

In 2017 the Committee decided to re-new all of the 26 pegs with robust  steps and platforms, the objective is to maintain the fishery to a high  standard throughout the season.

Vehicle Access

In 2017 the landowner allowed society members to drive into the field,  this proved a to be a huge advantage affecting membership while aiding  maintenance. The objective is to maintain an effective relationship with  the land owner and retain the ability to park behind the pegs.

Remembering previous Girling AS Committee Members

Dave Mullins

Dave was a Society member for over 40 years and a Committee member for over 20 years. He became Society Chairman in 2000 and was awarded life membership, he retired in 2023 due to ill health but remains a Trustee.

Peter Whittingham

Peter decided to step down from the Secretary/ Treasurer role in 2016 after over 40 years of service although he remains within the Society. Peter filled both Secretary and Treasurer roles admirably for as long as anyone can remember. We are all hugely grateful for his immense contribution over the years, Peter was awarded life membership in 2017 and became a Trustee in June 2024.

Colin was a member of the Society for many years and served on the committee between 2000 and 2010. He left the Society due to poor health.

Jim Tyler

Jim Tyler sadly no longer with us was a Society member for many years and served on the committee as a member and Chairman between 1986 and 2000, Jim was given life membership in 2006. Now best remembered for encouraging bank clearing by sponsoring the Cutters Cup and donating a cash prize for many years. Jim passed March 2011, his efforts over the years are well remembered by his many friends in the Society.
