About Us

 Objectives

The objective of the Society is to provide varied fishing matches on all venues while keeping the subscriptions low and sharing prize money as evenly as possible. In addition, this will be achieved with safety and conservation uncompromised.

Fishery location

The village of Fladbury is located between Evesham (5 miles) and Pershore (5 miles) and 15 minutes from the M5 motorway. After turning off the A44 towards Fladbury, the fishery is a further one mile to Jubilee Bridge and visitors should turn left into the Car Park immediately after the Bridge. For those using a Sat-Nav. post code WR10 3NG will get you close but look for Jubilee Bridge. Please check the "Map" and "Directions to the Fishery" on the "Contact Us" page, hover over the photographs at the bottom of the page and you will see what to look for on your way to the pegs. Essentially, from within the car park walk towards the River turning right up the lane for 300yds, through the round steel gate, keep left around an earth mound for approximately 150yds and you will be in front of peg 3. Peg 1 and 2 are downstream, Peg 26 is the start of the lock cutting. At the end of the cutting is the picturesque Mill House and Weir.

Nearest hostelry and WC is the Anchor Inn which is on the right as you travel to the fishery located just before the road narrows and you leave the village. The Anchor Inn is a traditional pub serving real ale and home made cheese and ham cobs, well recommended.

Fishery Description

There are 26 variable match pegs below the weir and 9 Winter Pole pegs in the Lock Stream shown on the Fladbury "Schematic"  on the "Member's Page". Here you will find a sketch of the fishery showing the layout and location of the pegs.

Match Pegs 1-26;- All of the Twenty Six match pegs have robust steps and Platforms. Starting at the access area, pegs 1 to 4 are in the Bay, the middle section pegs (some with raised platforms) have varying characteristics and depths as the river goes around a bend with the main flow on the far side. Nearing the weir, the upper stretch around pegs 19 to 25 can be pacey dependant on conditions, pegs 23, 24 and especially peg 25 have the flow along the near side bank, peg 26 is near the mouth of the lock Stream.

The fishing is excellent with Barbel, Chub, Roach, Dace, Pike and Perch the main quarry. Fladbury is known for big Barbel and they do show up occasionally in the matches and pleasure sessions.

Lock Stream Pegs 27-35;- There are 9 pegs in the Lock Stream opposite Fladbury Island, these pegs are ideal for the pole and provide pegs for Associate members on match days. Busy in the summer with boat traffic they are essentially winter pegs, here you will find Carp, Bream, Roach, Chub, Perch and Dace and the occasional eel, fishing is excellent when the main river is in flood.

Pegs 27 to 31 have steps and platforms built slightly higher than the match pegs for winter conditions, these Pegs excel when the river is up and backs up into the Lock Stream.

Pegs 32 to 35 are built on an old mooring, the two end pegs have no steps and all four Pegs are deeper and wider with views of the weir, these Pegs fish well in the summer if you can put up with the boats.

Details;- See "About Us"- Fladbury sub menus for "Schematic" and "Peg by Peg". The Schematic shows the layout of the fishery and the Peg by Peg describes every peg in detail.

The photograph below shows end peg 35 while still under construction.

Fladbury total refurbishment started in 2017

In 2017 and early 2018 the Society completed a total rework of the match pegs (1-26). Now all of the match pegs have robust steps and platforms for safety.

In 2019 we completed nine pegs in the Lock Channel (27-35).

The Outcome;-

Fladbury left bank Fishery has been transformed into one of the most pristine river fisheries on the Warwickshire Avon and one where the members and clubs who book matches will want to return.

The fishing is top class with safe varied pegs catching Barble, Chub, Pike, Roach, Dace and Perch. There is safe roadside parking and only a couple of hundred yards to superb pegs, on match days you can park behind your peg. We believe the fishery can now be regarded as top class.

Since completion we have seen a surge in match attendances, an increase in Associate membership and an increase in club match bookings.

The pegs are constantly maintained to ensure safety however, please take responsibility for your own safety when fishing Fladbury Left Bank.

History

The "Girling Angling Society" has been in existence since the 1940's and the Society has held the fishing rights to the stretch of the left bank of the Warwickshire Avon below Fladbury Weir since 1956.

The Society was formed by workers at the old Girling Factory in Kings Road, Tyseley, Birmingham and although that company has had many name changes since (Lucas / Lucas Varity / TRW) the Angling Society proudly upholds the name and tradition of the old vehicle brake manufacturer.

See the History Page.

During the early years the Society fished from below the weir down to the bottom of the Meadow. In the early seventies LANT renewed the lock creating the Island and lock cutting.

The Society has been affiliated to the Birmingham Anglers Association (BAA) for as long as anyone can remember.

We believe that over the years we have built a special relationship with the residents of Fladbury and the Society is determined to maintain this rapport by  being polite, driving through the village slowly and taking home discarded line and litter.
