Sunday Canal League - Latest News

Sunday Canal League - last post

Now that the "Sunday Canal League" has become a "stand alone" club affiliated to the BAA this will be the last news item on this website, the "Sunday Canal League" 2017 data will stay on until the turn of the year.

The view was that as a lot of the guys were from GirlingAS it was ok to "kick it off" in the "news section" but it wouldn't be correct to continue on this website in the future. Good luck the "Sunday Canal League".

Sunday Canal League 2017 - Well done Ginga.

The inaugural 2017 "Sunday Canal League" series is over well done Darren Davies. It was close in the end but he couldn't be caught in the last match.

This year we held all of the matches on the Dolphin AC stretch at Hampton Road and Barston Lane, thank's guys.

We started with 13 on the bank and finished with 8, that's not bad for the first season however, this first series was a bigger success in that we established a "Sunday Canal League" and affiliated to the BAA for next season. That means we will be on varied venues next year and we have increased the series to 10 matches but there are two matches back at Barston Lane.

We want to grow the series by having many more participants next year, it's only a tenner in at the start then pools on the day. It's Summer, Canal fishing every third Sunday with a total pay-out, why not give it a go in 2018. You won't catch 100lb of Carp or park behind your peg but it is natural fishing and a beer on the way home, yes it gets competitive.

Last match in the 2017 series 24/9/2017 - Barston Ln Car Park

Next match is the final match 24th September and it's close with DD on 112 points, DO on 109 and FB on 108. We are back at Barston Lane and as usual it's 8.15am on the bank.

For next year we have affiliated to the BAA and plan 10 matches instead of 8, so more variation next year, we already have twelve definates. Nothing else has changed, same £10 registration, £10 on the day and an 8.15 draw on the bank.

It's open to all, May to September every third Sunday. The venue list is available and we will hand them out at the last match.

Next match 3/9/2017 - Barston Lane Car Park

Next match is 3rd September at Barston Lane, in fact we have decided to hold both of the final matches at Barston Lane, 8.15 on the bank.

As you are aware in 2018 we plan to use BAA venues so you will need a BAA card. We already have twelve definates, we would like a few more, it's open to all, no guests, May to September every third Sunday.

Next match 13/8/2017 - Barston Lane Car Park

Next match is 13th August and with three to go we have three tied on 73 points. We are back at Barston Lane and as usual it's 8.15 on the bank.

Next year we plan to do it a little differently. We have affiliated to the BAA and plan 10 matches instead of 8, so more variation next year, we already have twelve definates. It's open to all, May to September every third Sunday.

Barston AC Canal Team Event - Sunday 28/5/2017

Heard that the team event was won on the Dolphin stretch with 31lb 5oz, been asked not to say which peg but it was in the low twenties.

Two disappointing matches

Went to Henry's to pay the peg fees after our second disappointing match and he couldn't understand our latest result. Clearly there was a match the day before and we should have switched to the opposite end but when you are on the bank after walking to the pegs to walk back, load up again and move to the other end of the canal wasn't an option so I guess we were partly to blame.

After our second result the Chairman John has supplied several photo's of a practice session they had a few days after using pegs 48, 55, 56 and 57. Looks like the four guys had about 8lb each from the Chub Peg and near to bridge 75, that's where we are next. Henry said we can spread out from peg 48 back towards the Barston Lane car park so we could peg 48, 51, 54, 57 etc. lots of space and no excuses.

Both of these guys have been supportive and both have said many times that you have to fish the bread. Let's not get disheartened, don't let results affect the turnout. We know there is a tremendous head of fish on this stretch, we are due a good match, see you all on 11th June at Barston Lane car park.
